Emotional moments for united families.

Today dated 11/04/2017 Commissioner of Police, Delhi awarded “Asadharan Karya Puraskar” to 3 Police officers of Police Station Vijay Vihar for their commendable work in tracing missing/kidnapped children.

Inspector Abhinendra, SHO, Vijay Vihar, PSI Divya Mann and PSI Anuj under the guidance of ACP Umesh Singh, Sub-Division, Rohini have shown extra zeal and exceptional ability to trace missing/kidnapped children.

ABOUT POLICE STATION VIJAY VIHAR:-The area of police station comprising mostly of unauthorized colonies like Budh Vihar Phase 1, Budh Vihar Phase 2, Vijay Vihar Phase1, Phase 2, Palcolony, Sardar Colony, Mange Ram Park etc. Some sectors of Rohini are also part of this police station. Approximately 4 lacs people are living in the area of Police station Vijay Vihar and out of them most of them are running rehri-patri, working as labour in factories, rickshaw pullers, fruit venders and daily wages labours. Their economic status is very poor and living conditions are not upto the mark. Most of the parents work on daily wages to earn their livelihood. Being poor they do not have sufficient resources to bring up their kids properly. These circumstances work as contributory factors for their children to flee from their homes. There are many cases of elopement also in the area of PS- Vijay Vihar. Analysis of various cases was done and several socio-economic issues were observed behind vanishing of children.

In Police Station Vijay Vihar 82 cases of missing children were reported during 2016, out of which total 77 missing children were recovered with effective, efficient and collective efforts of staff of PS Vijay Vihar police from different places. The detail of recovered missing children is as under:-

0-12 Years 13-16 Years 17-18 Years Total
M F M F M F M F
08 06 22 25 04 12 34 43

Keeping in view  very large number of elopement/kidnapping cases in the area of PS- Vijay Vihar. SHO/Vijay Vihar was instructed to put maximum efforts to trace such victims. Initially police was not able to deal with these type of cases as the family members were hesitant to deal with police officials. So, either they do not provide any information or provide incomplete information to police. Generally it has been seen that they reside in rented accommodation and change their house frequently. Apart from this, male police officials were not able to convince the parents as well as victim. Above mentioned facts affected the efforts of police badly to trace out the missing children. The police officials felt drastic need of some innovative approach in different manner to draw out the relevant information.

In view of above facts, a special team was constituted which adopted soft approach to deal with the issues. Help of Lady Sub-Inspector and other lady staff was taken to convince parents of the victims.  In some of the cases children lost their way to home but were traced by police due to timely action. In some of old cases children , who had eloped earlier were not able to meet as they had shifted. Thus the special team traced and re-united the children who had been missing since 2011, 2012, 2013 2014, 2015 also.

Both W/PSI Divya, D-5625 (2014 batch) and PSI Anuj, D-6043 (2015 batch) joined Delhi Police a few months ago after their training. The soft skills imparted to them during their training helped them in winning the confidence of affected families.  The team approached families in civil dress. The moment they received information about a missing child, the team started tracking the victim’s possible whereabouts and family members who were close to him or her. Formal interaction with family members and neighbors along with the class mates and other friends of the missing children often helped in zeroing in on the probable location where the victim might be staying. The day to day working of the team was monitored by Insp. Abhinendra,SHO Vijay Vihar. Form interviewing and monitoring family members to analyzing electronic data and conducting searches in numerous places across India, the team spared no efforts in tracking the children. After the team collected relevant information, SHO/ Vijay Vihar roped in other staff with relevant experience to develop intelligence about the condition of the victim. The key was to use communication and people skill to gain vital inputs.

With the painstaking efforts of the three police officials of Police Station Vijay Vihar/Rohini District namely Inspector Abhinendra – SHO/Vijay Vihar, W./Probationary Sub-Inspector Divya Mann and  Probationary Sub-Inspector Anuj 77 missing children have been recovered. The families felt enormous pleasure while their children were re-united with them and had thanked Police Department who had shown a humane face and worked with exemplary zeal to ensure that the children returned to their families.

Commissioner of Police, Delhi has awarded  ‘Asadharan Karya Puraskar’ to Inspector Abhinendra -SHO/Vijay Vihar/Rohini District, W./Probationary Sub-Inspector Divya Mann and Probationary Sub-Inspector Anuj for their outstanding work.
