The CEO, DJB, speaking on the occasion said, “The commissioning of the plant will benefit a population of about 13.4 lakh people. The Board strives to meet the water needs of the city, with the limited raw water availability.Last year, DJB had added piped water supply in 50 new colonies within the same raw water resource by more efficient management”.
Full commissioning of the plant will benefit the residents living in the sub-city of Dwarka as well as Dabri, the Sagarpur group of Colonies, Jeevan Park, the Uttam Nagar Group of Colonies and the adjoining areas and the command areas of the Ujwa, Daulatpur and Nafajgarh Underground Reservoirs.
Raw water for the plant will be available from the new Carrier Lined Channel (CLC) between Munak Canal and Haiderpur, constructed parallel to the Delhi branch of the existing Yamuna Canal. Construction of the Channel has been carried out by the Haryana Govt. Water from the WTP will be distributed to the 6 command tanks in Dwarka and 3 underground reservoirs at Najafgarh, Ujwa and Daulatpur.
The plant is SCADA based, fully automated and the water quality provided through the plant will meet the latest BIS standards. State-of-the art technology has been used in the plant, with the parallel plate sedimentation principle (Lamella clarifier), Rapid Gravity Sand Filters and process Wastewater Recovery System with zero liquid waste discharge.
The Lamella Clarifier will minimise the operational delays and the plant starts-up immediately, which provides high efficiency for the settlement of the suspended particles. The system is also capable of handling high turbidity in the raw water during the monsoon season. The Automatic sampling system, installed in the plant, will continuously monitor the quality of water in the WTP and in the transmission lines supplying water to the command areas of the various UGRs under the Dwarka WTP.
The clear water reservoir of the WTP is designed to store 4 hours of water supply.
With the commissioning of the Dwarka WTP, DJB has taken a leap forward towards providing more equitable water services in the city and this step has strengthened the mandate of the Board to bring the entire city under the distribution network of the Delhi Jal Board. In addition, DJB has taken a slew of steps to bring in efficiency and transparency for optimum resource management. DJB is also focussing on consumer-oriented initiatives for direct interaction with the consumers and in line with it, DJB has launched the 24×7 Customer Care Call Centre on toll free no. 1916, Mobile Application (for Android), Online Complaint registration on DJB website, DJB FacebookPage and improved Revenue Management System for online bill payment and other facilities related to water and sewer.
DJB will further continue to look for innovative solutions to provide the Water and Wastewater facilities which are at par with the other cities of the world.
