INDIAN AVIATION INDUSTRY EARNED REVENUE OF RS.1.5 LAKH CRORE DURING 2105-16

New Delhi, Dec 22  The Indian airlines industry had earned a revenue of Rs 1.5 lakh crore during 2015-16, Parliament was informed on Thursday.

According to Minister of State of Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, the turnover of Indian airlines industry during 2015-16 is close to the revenue of Indian Railways during the same period.

“… based on the available data, the turnover of Indian airlines industry during 2015-16 is estimated to be Rs 1.5 lakh crore (including foreign airlines serving in India), which is close to the revenue of Indian Railways (Rs 1.68 lakh crore) during the year 2015-16,” he told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

“The total number of airlines passengers in India during 2016 was approx 11 crore while the total number of passengers on Indian Railways’ air conditioned coaches was approx 12 crore,” he said.
