MEENAKSHI LEKHI INAUGRATES DJB KIRTI NAGAR ,NEW DELHI 20.9ML CAPACITY UNDERGROUND RESERVOIR/BOOSTER PUMPING STATION

Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, inaugurated the Kirti Nagar Underground Reservoir/ Booster Pumping Station on 21.12.2014 in the presence of Sh. Subhash Sachdeva Ex. MLA and Smt. Usha Mehta, Sh. Raj Kumar Lamba, Councillor NDMC, Sh. B.M. Dhaul, Member (Water/Drainage) DJB and other senior officers of the Delhi Jal Board.

The commissioning of the 20.9 ML Capacity Underground Reservoir/ Booster Pumping Station at Kirti Nagar is part of the Delhi Jal Board’s sustained efforts to rationalize the water distribution system in Delhi. DJB has been making strides in bringing new areas under its piped water supply network. The command areas which come under the Kirti Nagar UGR/ BPS include Industrial Area, Kirti Nagar, Ramesh Nagar, Mansarovar Garden, East Punjabi Bagh, Kedar Bagh group of colonies, Moti Nagar, Karam Pura etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, the Hon’ble Member of Parliament, appreciated DJB’s efforts and said, “Bringing new areas under the piped water network of the DJB will ensure that people have access to reliable drinking water, this will in turn bring a considerable improvement in the living conditions of the residents of the area along with contributing to clean environment in the city.”

Currently, DJB meets the needs of the city by providing water from its 7 Water Treatment Plants (WTPs), distributed through a network of 107 primary UGRs and a large number of secondary/local UGRs connected through a web of more of 14000 km long pipelines. In addition to the supply from surface water sources, DJB uses groundwater through 4,400 tubewells and 10 ranney wells to meet the daily water needs of the residents of Delhi.

The inauguration of the Kirti Nagar Underground Reservoir/ Booster Pumping Station is part of the DJB’s plan to provide efficient water and wastewater services to the residents of the city.
