NLC MINI MARATHON FLAGGED OFF BY N.S.RAMALINGAM,TOWNSHIP ADMINISTRATOR

With modern day children taking to the junk world, there is little doubt that obesity is menacingly on the increase among children. Less physical activity and more indulgence in fatty food form a lethal combination to produce life threatening disorders like diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases among children and eventually rob them of good quality of life before they blossom to full potential.

India which prides on youth potential will lose this demographic dividend if it inherits an unhealthy younger generation however skillful and talented they are. To raise red flag on this modern day plague, an event marking mini marathon was flagged off on 20.11.2014 by N.S.Ramalingam, Township Administrator. The event was a major draw among school children as around 1000 of them participated in open endorsement of the need that top priority must be given to physical activity which is regarded as a poor cousin compared to academic activities.

Even as children briskly covered a few miles in the marathon race, this event had become a mile stone achievement for NLC GH, Indian Medical Association, Neyveli and Indian Academy of Paediatics, Cuddalore, which were behind conducting this novel programme to motivate children to level the playing field with physical activity.

G.Kalaiselvan, DSP, Neyveli distributed prizes to the winners. Dr.A. Chenthil, Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Cuddalore Branch and Dr. N.Premkumar, President, Indian Medical Association, Neyveli Chapter, and Dr. Swaminathan, President TNGDA, Cuddalore were instrumental in oganising this event to whip up mass awareness on the need for physical activity among children. Dr.Anbukili, Vice President IMA, Neyveli, Dr. Jayamohandhas, Dr. Gayathri, Rotary Club and Inner Wheel of Neyveli rendered valuable support towards successful conduct of this event. Shri. S.Sridhar, GM/Public Relations, NLC Limited graced the occasion.
