The 108th meeting of the Delhi Jal Board was held on 10.07.2012.  Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, Delhi and Chairperson, Delhi Jal Board chaired the meeting. During the meeting several key projects were discussed and approved.

The Board gave approval for construction of the 7.0 Million Litre (ML) underground reservoir and Booster Pumping Station at Shalimar Park Shahdara, New Delhi at a total cost of Rs.10.81 crores approx. The work is likely to be completed within 15 months, plus three month trial run and ten year operation and maintenance thereafter. The areas under the command of the proposed Under Ground Reservoir and Booster Pumping Station fall at the tail end of the distribution network of the existing two UGRs which presently feed the area and as a result the residents of the Shahdara ward are facing water supply problems. However, after commissioning of this UGR the residents of the Shahdara group of colonies, Bholanath Nagar group of colonies, Shalimar Park, Shalimar Park extension and adjoining areas will benefit by receiving adequate water supply at improved pressure.

In order to prevent the leakages of water pipelines and optimize utilization of available water resources, DJB is going to replace the water lines in the areas of Haiderpur, Prashant Vihar, Delhi Cantonment BPS, Mangolpuri, Meera Bagh and Carriappa Marg. The overall cost of the project is  Rs. 18, 28,40,237.

In addition to this DJB is going to replace pipelines from Haiderpur to Lawrence Road Underground Reservoir with diameters 1100/800m to 1100/900mm. The overall cost for this project is Rs 12,21,40,839. This will help the consumers in those areas to get improved water supply from DJB.

In the Haiderpur region, DJB has also approved another project for the installation of 3 new pump sets of 15 MGD capacity each at Kirari where an underground reservoir is under construction. It will receive water from Haiderpur WTP PH. 1. Apart from Kirari, water through this new pump installation will also be discharged to other pumping stations namely CT- 1 Rohini, CT- 2 Rohini, Sultanpuri and Sector- 23 Rohini.

For the first time in India, water treatment recycle plants had been set up, at three of DJB’s Water Treatment Plants to treat and recycle the processed waste water. By doing so, DJB added 37 MGD of additional water to its kitty. In order to increase the efficiency of its water treatment facility, DJB has awarded the work of operation and maintenance of the 11 MGD water treatment recycle plant at  Wazirabad, for a period of 5 years, at a cost of  Rs. 9, 39, 92,820.

DJB has also approved the replacement of the 1100 mm diameter West Delhi water transmission main with new and better M.S pipes from the Wazirpur depot to Shukurpur Village along the Ring Road. Due to these pipelines being more than 30 years old, frequent breakdowns and heavy leakages caused deficient service delivery and revenue losses. Extensive study and professional inspection showed that around 2.1 km. length of the 1100 mm diameter pipeline needs immediate replacement. The Board has approved the work at a total cost of  Rs.4,13,36,808/-

The conveyance line carrying treated effluent from Okhla STP to the Ring Road, which supplies recycled water to NDMC areas, is damaged due to heavy traffic movement on the Outer Ring Road.  DJB has approved the replacement of the 1500 mm diameter and 3 kms long pipeline from Sarai Kale Khan to I.P. Estate Railway Track at a cost of Rs. 12,41,23,915

The Board has approved the set up of the internal water supply distribution network for the Begumpur village, an unauthorized colony in Bawana. The

water lines to be laid will cover 20.20 Km and will be inside sizes ranging from 100 mm to 400 mm. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs.4.44 crores.

DJB water tankers are supplying water in 8 zones of Delhi through its own fleet and hired tankers (around 1000 tankers). In 5 zones newly manufactured water tankers will be provided which will have stainless steel containers and will be of 3 kilo litre and 9 kilo litre capacity. M/s DIMS are the consultants engaged for this project. Each tanker will be provided with a smart card which will be required to be swiped at water filling stations to facilitate check on the quantum of water being supplied and GPS devices will also be mounted on the tankers. This will drastically improve services provided by tankers by checking wastage, diversion of water and unreliability of tanker visits.
