THAAWAR CHAND GEHLOT FLAGS OFF RUN ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

New Delhi: The Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Thaawar Chand
Gehlot and Shri Sandeep Kumar, Delhi Minister for Social Welfare and
Women & Child Development flag off the run on the International Day
against Drug Abuse at India Gate.

A total of 13 partners participated in the mass awareness mega event
“Run against Drug Abuse” with a message “Think Health Not Drugs”. The
focus of this year is “Drug use disorders are Preventable and
Curable”. On this occasion, 4000 participants also took the pledge
along with the dignitaries.

To convey the message a series of events are planned which includes a
thematic cultural show with skits, demos to spread awareness on drug
use prevention with showcasing of various positive activities like a
Run, Slogan March, Yoga, Martial art-self defense, Poster competition,
Dance, Counseling and Expo on Drug de-addiction.

This is 13th year of the Anti Drug Campaign. The participants belongs
to various Government Institutions, Schools and colleges, NGO’s,
Defense/Police forces (CRPF, BSF, ITBP, Indian Coast Guard, SSB,
CISF), NCC cadets, Scouts, Civil Defense, Martial art academies, media
and other prominent members of civil society organizations.

The Directorate of Prohibition has been assigned Drug demand reduction
activities at the state level which are fulfilled through Advocacy
through Multimedia campaign, Counseling Services, Coordination with
detox centers for treatment of drug dependants, and Survey-study
reports on various aspects related to the issue.
