AS PART OF DELHI POLICE WEEK INTERACTIVE MEETING WITH SCHOOL COORDINATORS OF ROAD SAFETY CLUB HELD

New Delhi: As part of Delhi Police Week – 2016 celebrations, an interactive meeting with school coordinators of Road Safety Club was organized at Delhi Police Public School Auditorium, Safdarjung Enclave on 17th Feb 2016 to make them aware of the activities of Road Safety Club and the advantages of being the member of the club so as to convince the new members about how various activities being organized by schools have gone a long way in sensitizing the children as well as the grownups about importance of following traffic rules and road safety norms.. Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor IGNOU graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr. Muktesh Chander, Spl. Commissioner of Police/Traffic; Sh. Pradip Hota, Addl. Commissioner of Police/Traffic and Sh. S.N. Mosobi were present on the occasion. Around 160 school coordinators from 110 schools participated in the interactive meeting.

Sh. Pradip Hota presented the welcome address on the occasion.  Ms. Meenakshi Kukreja Dy. Director, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) presented a brief about the activities being organized under the aegis of the Road Safety Club. The concept of Road Safety Club was launched in 2010 with with just 17 schools enrolled as members. Now the number of schools have reached the 1350 mark. Some of the old road safety club member schools made power point presentations on the various road safety awareness activities being organized by them. Enactus an NGO of students from Shri Ram College of Commerce presented a thought provoking puppet show on road safety theme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muktesh Chander, Special Commissioner of Police/Traffic called upon the school principals and teachers to inculcate in children importance of good road user behaviour as part of life skill training and value education as teachers are the ones who are capable of moulding the children, enhancing their personality and spread the message of road safety to make it a social revolution to bring about a change in our society. He called upon the schools to take cue from Gyan Mandir Public School who has taken up the cause of road safety with great enthusiasm. He said that our message of good road user behavior should pass from the students to their parents, relatives, friend circle and to the society at large, so that we have a great number of good road using citizens in the future days to come.

Prof. Nageshwar Rao called upon the teachers to contribute to road safety mechanism in a big way as teachers have the more reach to the society through their students. He pledged his support in developing some certificate programme in road safety awareness for youngsters, which will go a long way in improving their road user behaviour.

Representatives from JK Tyres presented a PPT on Vehicle Tyre Safety and Mr.  Rohit Sharma from Way to Happiness presented short clippings on importance of moral and ethical values in our lives. The programme was concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Mr. Prashant Chopra from Hero Motocorp, one of the stakeholders of Road Safety Club.
