CAPITAL CRIME GRAPH TO DECLINE AS AUDACIOUS AMULYA PATNAIK TAKES OVER AS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE DELHI
New Delhi: Senior IPS officer of Assam–Meghalaya, Manipur–Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh–Goa–Mizoram–Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre Amulya Patnaik was appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police yesterday.
With this, Patnatik has become the first Odia IPS officer to be tipped for this key post.
“I have discharged my duty for the Delhi Police in various capacities since 1985. The new assignment will be a challenging task for me. There are several capable officers in Delhi Police and I will try to give my best performance as a Police Commissioner,” Patnaik told media.
The 1985 batch IPS officer and presently posted as Delhi Police Special Commissioner (administration), Patnaik will replace will replace Alok Verma, who has been named as the director of CBI.
With his specialisation in the field of law and order, Patnaik’s commitment and flawless leadership brought a sea change in crime investigation with breakthrough in major cases like the Mumbai blast accused, parcel bomb case and sensational kidnapping of a schoolboy by armed gangsters from Sarita Vihar area.
Apart from this, he had taken a lead role in quelling the riots in an anti-Dunkel rally in 1994 in which he had sustained grievous injuries. In 1995, he took the initiative in the launching of Pratidhi, a Delhi Police programme to extend counselling and other assistance to victims of traumatic crimes.
Patnaik, has deftly handled Central, East and South Districts of Delhi Police. His focus on preventive planning and police-community partnership has resulted in a drastic fall in the crime rate. Besides, his other pioneering steps like launching of the anti-obscene calls cell and anti-stalking cell had prevented crimes against women in Delhi.
