DCP NORTH AND RWA’S ASSURE AFRICAN NATIONALS FOR THEIR SAFETY AND SECURITY

 

Today, a meeting was conducted by the undersigned with the African Nationals staying in North Delhi, RWA representatives from the concerned areas and ACP’s and SHO’s of the respective areas.

 

Attendees of the meeting:

Deputy Commissioner of Police, North District, Delhi, ACP Civil Lines, SHOs of Timarpur, Maurice Nagar and Burari areas, RWA representatives from different areas, African students studying in Delhi University and many African working professionals staying in the area attended the meeting.

 

Points discussed

African nationals thanked Deputy Commissioner of Police North for convening such meeting and shared their concerns about their safety and security. A Kenyan national Mr. John said that mainly the problem is due to attitude of few Indians towards Africans. Also sometimes policemen attending their problems don’t understand their language or English and hence are unable to address their issues. Mr. Ahamefule A.Nelson, President of Nigerian community in Delhi shared that the meeting is first of its kind being organized and would immensely help in addressing concerns raised by African Nationals. He further said that Africans come to India due to historical ties and welcoming Indian atmosphere. Efforts must be made from both the sides so that this relationship grows and prosper, and smaller hurdles like one in hand is solved with coordinated efforts from both the sides. He further said that if any African national is found involved in illegal activities, he must be dealt with in accordance with law.

 

RWAs mainly assured all African nationals for every type of support and also assured that no discrimination would be done. Although they raised concerns about some African nationals involved in drug related crime. Fellow Africans must use peer pressure to stop such incidents.

 

Deputy Commissioner of Police, North District, Delhi, firstly assured that such meetings would be called regularly so that an institutional mechanism is established to address any grievances of African Nationals. He further assured all African nationals about their safety and security. He said that every possible help would be extended to them in this regard. Also he said that every policemen in the district is being sensitized about African nationals and problems faced by them. He informed all attendees that 15 such meetings have already been conducted at various levels in the district. He added that in case African nationals face any problem they can directly meet SHO concerned and convey their grievances.

 

Meeting ended with a vote of thanks by DCP North.
