DJB bags the prestigious Water Digest Water Award for Best Water Management – Public Sector – 2014-15

New Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board bagged the prestigious Water Digest Water Award under the category the Best Water Management – Public Sector, 2014-15 in recognition of the Decentralized Drinking Water Pilot Plants in Savda Ghevra, at the Water Digest Water Awards held yesterday on 24.03.2015 at the Vasant Continental, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, on the occasion of the World Water Day. The award was received on behalf of DJB by Sh. R.S. Tyagi, Member (Water Supply), Delhi Jal Board. The award is supported by UNESCO and the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India. DJB has received this award in recognition for its efficient and eco-friendly handling of water through Water ATMs at Savda Ghevra.
DJB has set-up a decentralized drinking water plant, based on Reverse Osmosis, along with solar-powered water ATMs at 15 different locations in Savda Ghevra. Currently, 1300 Smart Cards have been issued to various families for availing water facility from the Water ATM. The main objective of this project was to create affordable access to safe drinking water by installing a commercial water purification plant at a site provided within the community.
The project has brought about a paradigm shift in the water sector. It can be seen as an initiative which may be followed by many other utilities across the states and countries as well. The project has also earned appreciation from the Queen of Netherland in her visit to the state. DJB has replicated similar models in other parts of the city including Raj Nagar, Raja Puri, Dwarka, Shahbad Daulatpur and Holambi Kalan. DJB proposes to install 500 such water ATMs across the city of Delhi. Already, 40 ATMs are in operation across the city and are providing drinking water 24×7 to the people of the area. This has brought about remarkable changes in the lives of the residents and improved the living standards in the area. A total of more than 5000 cards are being used by the residents across the city to get water from the Water ATMs
Infact as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited has signed an MoU with DJB to install ROs with Water Dispensing units in the North and North West parts of the city, to provide clean drinking water to the residents of the areas under the jurisdiction of Tata Power. As a part of the MoU, a total of 100 ROs with Water Dispensing units will be set up in a phased manner.
This project has enabled DJB to provide potable water facility in those area where, due to lack of technical and resource constraints, piped water could not be supplied. It has further strengthened DJB’s efforts to transform itself from an engineering driven organization to a service delivery utility. DJB, in its constant endeavor to provide quality service to its consumers, will continue to bring in new innovations to enable the Board to further improve its service delivery system and improve customer satisfaction.
