An exclusive insight into "Centre for Sight" burgeoning growth in the field of Eye care industry

How did idea of Centre for sight came up and when was it established.

I was a faculty in AIIMS and did my graduation and Post-Graduation from there only. It was during stint in USA in Georgetown university Washington DC in 1989-90 where i worked with certain individuals, who impressed me  and they kind of showed that the thought process need not be inhibited or limited by just the circumstances where you are, “kind of wanting to think  bigger was something I learnt there” and ,when I returned to India and  again joined back  AIIMS, within those couple of years i thought that there is no really good institutions in the private setup dealing with eye care in North India. “There were the big institutions, they were all basically in the government setups therefore i thought that i can create something, which gives good quality service to the patients in the private set up in North India in the field of eye care and we should do that and that is how the idea came and i put in my papers and March 15th 1996 i started centre for sight”. Said Dr. Sachdev

How many centres and how many branches Centre of sight wish to reach, till when and where all.

As of now we are close to 20 branches and within the next three months will be around 22 as work is going on to other branches. “The thought process is to reach 60 centres over the next 3 years, planning on about 12 centres this year and we are looking at another 15 –15 in next two years”. As of now primarily focussed on north India but we are moving towards central India and then will try to move towards eastern parts of India and the philosophy is to penetrate deep into one particular segment, so therefore we are company being headquarter in Delhi so we have around 10 centres now in NCR but apart from this we had gone to J&K, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan,Uttar Pradesh and now we are going to start in Madhya Pradesh.

What is the USP for Centre for Sight.

Basically we emphasise significantly on the skill sets of our surgeons, our surgeons are from the top places and we have six ex -faculties from AIIMS and we have other people who have been trained abroad or other good institutions of India. Apart from that we supplement the skill set of doctors with cutting edge technology so technology acquisition has been something which has been our forte, we have introduce the first Zyoptix that’s the customised Lasix in India, we were the first to introduce the use of ICL implantable contact lens in Indian, blade free Lasix in India, lot of things we have done first. So technology is something we acquire combined with our doctor’s skill  which is very good. “Our four founding pillars are Precision, Accuracy, Integrity and compassion, compassion toward patient and integrity is they given honest clinical opinion and precision and accuracy to deliver result in precise manner”.

How many operations till date had been performed and what has been the accuracy.

Overall centre for sight on an yearly basis across centre does 15000-18000 surgeries and overall the results are at par with any other good institution in the world.

What are the CSR initiatives if any by Centre for Sight.

We regularly conduct camps for the people in tie up with RWA and go to their doorsteps and do camps, school surveys for children with refractive error, Corporate screening specially computer vision syndrome etc. Public education series like world diabetic day, world elderly day, World Glaucoma day provide our service free of cost to social organisation and only the consumable cost is taken care by the social organisation.

Who are your key team members and what’s they specialize in.

One of the first key member who joined me was my wife Dr. Alka Sachdev, she is a doctor and worked with central government and took voluntary retirement to join and at present she is responsible for the operations and smooth functioning of CFS..Apart from that my elder daughter Dr. Ratika Sachdev  an ophthalmologist by profession has also joined the centre and CFO is Mr. Shimant Chadha who looks after expansion and projects , COO Mr Sumeet khanna, and a strong IT team who created hospital own real-time HIS  System  with the help of which we can see the clinical data across centres .

Can you please share your vision, where you foresee Centre for sight in next 5 years.

I think with the grace of god we have done very well when we started in 1996 and what we are today I mean the largest provider of eye care services in private healthcare in entire region of this side, nationally we stand at third position and our CAGR report 40% over last several years despite of larger base. “Definitely we see centre for sight as something which should be considered as last word in ophthalmology when people want an opinion or they want to get a surgical intervention done. Want centre of sight to be recognised as a brand in India and neighbouring countries .Maintain the quality and surgical outcome at excellent level are some of the challenges”.

What is the message you would like to share for our visitors.

We are proud of where we are today, “the achievement of centre of sight is the result of faith, love and affection of patients, we do want to remain in the forefront of technology and we hope to provide good quality services at affordable rates to all our patients”. We wish to say that we wish to reduce the time gap between technology that’s available overseas that get implemented in India.
