GOVERNMENT MUST APPOINT A REGULAR CBI CHIEF BY JANUARY 16 SAYS SUPREME COURT

The government must appoint a regular CBI chief by January 16 even as it raised questions about the competence of the acting chief of the investigating agency Rakesh Asthana, pointing out that he did not have the requisite seniority for the job ,the Supreme Court said on Friday
“Supreme Court judgment says that ordinarily , only IPS officers from the four seniormost batches will be eligible for appointment (as CBI chief). What is extraordinary here that he (Asthana) was appointed?“ a bench of Justices Kurian Joseph and R F Nariman asked the government
