HUDCO Celebrates its 44th Foundation Day on 25th April, 2014.
Housing & Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO) celebrated its 44th Foundation Day
on 25th April, 2014. Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Anita Agnihotri, Secretary, Housing &
Urban Poverty Alleviation appreciated the commendable achievements of the Organisation in
maintaining its motto of ‘Profitability with Social Justice’ with a gross profit of Rs.1098 crores
in 2013 – 14 of which it has sanctioned more than Rs. 6000 crores for the EWS and LIG
Category amounting to over 98% of the total housing units sanctioned. Smt. Agnihotri mentioned that all the initiatives of HUDCO are in line with the policy of sustainable
development of Human Settlements which covers affordable Housing for all, provision of
secured tenure, slum free cities and expansion of urban infrastructure in the cities and towns in
India. The Secretary said, that in view of the emerging requirement for Housing and Urban
Infrastructure in the country, HUDCO needs to “re-engineer business intelligence” to play more
pro active and specific role to encourage various stake holders to take up larger number of
housing and infrastructure projects. Smt. Agnihotri, mentioned, that in addition to the project
financing, Capacity Building of the sector is equally important. HUDCO through its Research &
Training Institute – Human Settlement Management Institute (HSMI) has been imparting
training & capacity building for the sustainable development of the sector.
The Secretary said, that as we plan our future programmes to move towards making the vision of
the slum free India a reality, HUDCO is poised to take a significant role by supporting the
growing needs of Housing and Infrastructure by actively associating itself with the Government
of India’s flagship programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, CMD, HUDCO Dr. M. Ravi Kanth stated, that HUDCO has achieved
excellent rating during its performance in 2013 – 14 with Sanctions of Rs. 17,491 crores.
HUDCO, in the Housing Sector financed 14.34 lakh housing units, out of which 14.12 units
belong to EWS and LIG category i.e. 98.5 % of the total sanctioned housing units.
Dr. Kanth, in his address, emphasised three basic requirements of human beings – Roti, Kapraa,
Makan – the costliest among them being Makan. He said, that the endeavor will be to make the
costly component of human life as an “affordable abode” to all. Dr. Kanth suggested that like
Food Security Act, India, should also create Housing Security Act soon. Dr. Kanth said that
HUDCO has done well in its long journey of 44 years in achieving multi dimensional growth.
HUDCO Award was given for the Best Practices to improve the Living Environment fulfilling
the need for recognition of practices that exhibit a tangible and positive impact on environment.
On this occasion, HUDCO also awarded its best performing Borrowing Agencies and Regional
Offices. Apart from this, Long Service Awards and Awards for Best Employee of the year were
also given away by Smt. Anita Agnihotri, Secretary, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Several HUDCO publications were also released on the occasion.
The day was also celebrated with a Kuchipudi Dance recital by MSV Vaishnavi and a cultural
programme by the members of the HUDCO family.
