New Delhi: An interstate co-ordination meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination in order to address various issues related to policing in NCR was held under the chairmanship of CP/Delhi today at PHQ. Keeping in mind especially the forthcoming “Independence Day Functions” and “Kanwar Mela”. The main objective of the meeting was to share terror related intelligence and inputs about various extremist outfits & their designs in view of forthcoming Independence Day celebrations. Senior officers of Delhi Police and their counterparts from Haryana, Punjab, Utter Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, J&K and Chandigarh attended the meeting.
CP/Delhi stressed on increasing police presence, intensive and co-ordinated checking at vulnerable points, tenant verification, guest house checking and sensitization of cyber café owners, second-hand car dealers, transporters, property dealers, cycle sellers, chemical dealers and STD/ISD PCO booth owners in order to strengthen the counter terrorism measures. Further, sensitised the officers to keep close watch on open areas which can be used for launching para-gliders, micro-light aircrafts which have the potential to be used in terror related activities.
The arrangements for maintaining the law & order during “KANWAR MELA” in the context of crowd/traffic management were also discussed. The officers attending the meeting also shared intelligence to check crime committed by interstate criminals operating in their respective areas. Issues of human trafficking, missing children and proliferation of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and smuggling of illicit firearms were discussed and preventive steps were also discussed emphasizing upon integrated joint checking at unmanned borders in tandem with each other.
Traffic issues such as disciplining of HTVs, MTVs and LGVs and movement in ‘Bus Lane’, ‘No Entry’ restriction timings after 10 pm during night hours, the returning of non-designed commercial goods vehicles from Delhi borders, fixation of “Rear Under Protection Devices” and “Lateral Under Protection Device“ in commercial unit vehicles were stressed upon.
All officers were briefed to share advance intelligence having interstate ramification on law and order. During the Panchayat Elections due to be held in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in September-October 2015, information concerning other states will be shared in absolute coordination and cooperation with each other.
One minute silence was observed to pay tribute to Shri Baljit Singh, S.P., and others who laid their lives in the line of duty in the recent terrorist attack in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
The meeting ended with a resolution to have increased co-ordination in policing in the NCR region with emphasis on one to one interaction at all levels and units in order to provide a more secure environment to citizens of Delhi and neighbouring states.
