PNB SIGNS MOU WITH RML-ISPL

New Delhi, Aug 01 : Punjab National Bank, one of the largest Nationalised Bank signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RML-ISPL, for providing mobile based personalized agricultural information/ services on agricultural practices, local weather forecast, spot prices of chosen crop, agronomical advisory, commodity specific market intelligence & Bank’s Agriculture Credit schemes to the farming community through the PNB branch network.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Rakesh Gupta; GM-PS&LB on the behalf of Bank and Vijay Iyer, VP represented RML ISPL. Dr. R S Sangapure, Executive Director, K K Mahendru, DGM, Senior Executives, Lead District Managers of PNB and Amit Mehra, Founder & CEO, RML-ISPL, were also present on the occasion.

Dr. R S Sangapure, Executive Director, PNB said that agricultural information on mobile of farmer is very useful in increasing the crop productivity and his farm income.

Dr. Rakesh Gupta, GM-PS&LB, commented “In the entire agriculture value chain farmer plays a crucial role. In the same time, he has face uncertainty related to weather, prices, input etc coupled with lack of credit and financial resources. The mobile based services provided by RML to the farmer will prove in the long run to minimise risk associated with weather, agricultural practices, market price etc. and ultimately improve their standard of living”.

Vijay Iyer ,VP-RML ISPL informed that RML provides critical agri information to farmers’ mobile phones via local language text messages, with an aim to maximise their productivity and income. The service is available on all operators and handsets in nine languages covering most of India. As of today, Reuters Market Light has empowered over 1.3 million registered farmers across 50,000 villages in 17 Indian states.

Amit Mehra, CEO and Founder, RML ISPL said, “Teaming up with the country’s largest nationalised bank will add momentum and help us scale-up our footprint in key states in a very rapid and systematic manner”.

Dr. Gupta further concluded that this tie up is a major step to reaching a long and productive partnership for the benefit of Indian farming community.
