POWERGRID raises about Rs. 4000 crore through bond issue at 9.30%

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has raised Rs. 3997.50 crore through its bond issue in the domestic market at a coupon rate of 9.30% p.a, the lowest rate in the present context under private placement. The tenure of the bonds is 15 years with maturities starting from the end of the 4th year. The bonds are rated as AAA by CRISIL, ICRA and CARE. The proceeds of the bonds shall be utilised for part financing of capital expenditure of Rs.20000 crore targeted for the financial year 2012-13. In the past also POWERGRID has been raising funds through bond issue at very competitive rates.

POWERGRID a ‘Navratna’ Company and the ‘Central Transmission Utility (CTU)’ of the country, has registered a net profit of Rs. 3255 Crore over a turnover of Rs.10785 Crore in the FY 2011-12, registering a growth of about 19 % in Turnover and 21 % in Net Profit compared to FY 2010-11.
At present, POWERGRID is operating about 94,000 ckt. kms. of transmission lines along with 154 Sub-stations with transforma¬tion capacity of more than 1,31,000 MVA. With the use of state-of-the-art preventive maintenance techniques, average availability of transmission system during the year 2011-12 was maintained at 99.94% and the total Inter-regional transmission capacity of National Grid to about 28,000 MW.
POWERGRID is the only Company in the Power Sector which has exceeded their XI plan investment target of Rs. 55,000 crore. Further, POWERGRID has also planned Rs. 1,00,000 crore capital expenditure in XII plan including Rs. 20,000 crore in FY 2012-13.
