UNION HOME MINISTER SH. RAJNATH SINGH VISITS DELHI POLICE HEAD QUARTERS 

Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Union Home Minister (HM) accompanied by Shri Anil Goswami, Union Home Secretary (HS) and MHA officials visited Delhi Police Headquarters on 16.6.2014.

Hon’ble HM was received at PHQ by Shri Bhim Sain Bassi, Commissioner of Police (CP). A guard of honour was presented. Thereafter, Hon’ble HM visited Central Police Control Room (CPCR) and Integrated Command Control Co-ordination and Communication Centre (C4i). Spl. CP/Operations Smt. S. Sundari Nanda explained the functioning of the CPCR and C4i, including the Women Helpline Desk (1091).

Later the Hon’ble HM addressed a meeting of the senior officers of Delhi Police. This address was preceded by a brief presentation by CP about the functioning of Delhi Police. CP apprised the Hon’ble HM about the organizational structure, law and order situation, crime scenario and functioning of important units. He also outlined the community policing initiatives and special measures taken for women’s safety and vulnerable sections of the society. He mentioned about the spectacular success of recently launched mobile and web application for lodging ‘Lost Report’ and of mobile phone based Traffic assistance application. A mention was also made of certain issues pending consideration of the Government of India. These include Safe City Project, creation of additional posts, incentives for policemen posted in specialized high risk units and additional requirement of funds for vehicles and police housing.

The Hon’ble HM assured to give due consideration to the pending proposals so that a modern police machinery is provided to the Delhi’s citizens. While appreciating steps taken by Delhi Police for enhancing safety of women in Delhi, the Hon’ble HM stressed the need to firmly deal with crimes against women. The Hon’ble HM appreciated Delhi Police for its professional handling of law and order situations. In particular, he complimented the officers and men of Delhi Police for incident free conduct of Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections.

The Hon’ble HM urged that Delhi Police, being responsible for the security of capital of India, should become a role model for metropolitan policing. He assured full support of the Government of India in making Delhi Police a modern, responsible and efficient police organization. He also mentioned that the MHA would look into the request of Delhi Police for providing special incentive to Commandos and policemen performing high risk job.

While concluding his address, the Hon’ble HM asked all the officers present to observe one minute silence in the memory of Late Ct. Mana Ram who had laid down his life while performing traffic duties on June 14, 2014.
