The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed senior IPS officers Asim Arun (IPS:1994:UP) and A Satish Ganesh (IPS:1996:UP) as the first Police Commissioners of Kanpur and Varanasi respectively. Both the Commissioner of Police (CP) belong to ADG rank.
Late Thursday night, the state cabinet had approved the Police Commissionerate System in Kanpur and Varanasi and the appointments of CPs were done early Friday morning.
A Satish Ganesh is currently posted ADG, Agra Zone while Asim Arun is handling the responsibility of Dial 112.
The system was earlier implemented in two other major cities — Gautam Buddha Nagar and state capital Lucknow.
