Bibi Jagir Kaur condemns barring Sikh lawyer from going to court with Kirpan in England
Amritsar, April 15, 2021:
SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur strongly condemned forcing a Amritdhari (initiated) Sikh lawyer Jaskirat Singh to take down his kirpan (sword) while going to the Ealing Magistrate’s Court in England. Bibi Jagir Kaur termed it as tampering with the religious sentiments of the Sikhs. She said that for the Amritdhari Sikhs, the kirpan is an important part of kakaar, which is a must for Sikhs and an important part of being Khalsa’s lifestyle.
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The Sikh qaum (community) has always strived for world peace and welfare of humanity. Overseas, Sikhs have attained high status due to their hard work and have made a great contribution to the development of the respective countries. Today Sikhs are also part of governments abroad. She said that Amritdhari Sikhs around the world wear their kakaars including kirpan. In such a situation it is unfortunate to harass a Sikh youth in England for wearing a kirpan.”
Meanwhile, Retired employees of various colleges functioning under the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) were given gratuity cheques and leave in cash SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur.
On this occasion Bibi Jagir Kaur informed that cheques of Rs 94,18,184 were distributed to 15 retired employees who retired in the past from various colleges.
She said that every employee is proud to receive their dues at the time of retirement so that they can have a good time in the future. She said that these employees had retired in the past and their funds were outstanding.
Bibi Jagir Kaur prayed for the well being of the retired employees and said that Akal Purakh should always be with them.
On this occasion, additional secretary S. Sukhminder Singh, assistant secretary S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, OSD to SGPC president S. Amrik Singh Latifpur, OSD S. Sukhbir Singh, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, accountant Manjinder Singh and others were present.
Bibi Jagir Kaur also appealed to the Government of India to take immediate action to stop discrimination against Sikhs abroad.
