GOA TO BECOME THE CLEANEST TOURIST DESTINATION:MANOHAR PARIKAR,CM,GOVT. OF GOA

MUMBAI,AUGUST 17:The Government of Goa is working towards earning a name for the state as the cleanest tourist destination, which will help the state attract high spending tourists, Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister, Government of Goa said during his Independence Day speech at Panaji yesterday. The government’s thrust will be on four areas of employment, garbage management, tourism and development, he said.

“After drugs and prostitution, garbage has proved to be the third biggest hurdle that is keeping away high spending tourists from Goa. Work is on by the state government of collecting garbage lying in heaps and strewn around all over the coastal belt, highways, city and rural roads. It is my promise to you all that Goa will soon gain fame as the cleanest tourist destination,” Parrikar said.

He said that the government has decided to set up state-of-the-art garbage treatment plants in three places in Goa. He added, “The plants will be functional within a year and will resolve Goa’s garbage problem entirely.”

“Goa’s economy and employment generation is largely dependent on the tourism sector. But some vested interests are trying to ruin the fame earned by Goa’s tourism. Prostitution and drugs are ruining Goa’s tourism sector, but my government is determined to rid Goa of these ills. We have recently decided to not allow dance bars in Goa at any cost,” Parrikar stated. He said that people residing in these tourist areas will be provided the necessary training to allow them to earn their living from the sector.
