PNB Celebrated Republic Day by Facilitating the Unsung Heroes of the Country
26thJanuary 2019: PNB celebrated India’s 70th Republic Day on January 26, 2019. The auspicious occasion was celebrated at the PNB Headquarters, where MD & CEO, Shri Sunil Mehta hoisted the national flag and felicitated the unsung Heroes of the India. Also present were Shri L V Prabhakar and Shri Agyey Kumar Azad Executive Directors’ of the Bank and CVO Shri Satish K Nagpal. The bank scouted individuals who have worked with determination to bring pride to the country and society at large. They all come from different walks of life and have contributed to the country in their own possible ways. The bank felicitated them with cash of Rs.21000/- to thank them for their making country proud and inspiring millions of Indians to bring a positive change to the world.
As a part of the CSR initiative, Punjab National Bank is proactively catering to the needs and aspirations of the society. The bank is contributing to social welfare for the underprivileged through its various CSR schemes. On the auspicious occasion of Republic Day, the bank contributed 10 wheelchairs and 5 stretcher trolley for the service of needy patients of Janakpuri Govt. Hospital New Delhi. The various CSR schemes initiated by PNB are PNB Ladli, PNB KisanBalak Shiksha Protsahan Yojana, Mahila Kaushal Vikas Yojana and PNB Prerna and these schemes are impacting so many lives across the country.
Following unsung hero were felicitated on Republic day celebrations of PNB:
KAVITA CHAHAL– BOXER: Kavita Chahal is a four-time Asian medalist and Arjuna Award winner in 2013. A Heavyweight Indian female boxer and recipient of 2nd world rank in boxing for 2 consecutive year from 2012 to 2014 and has also won 2 gold medals in World Police Games
Gitanjali Babbar: Geetanjali Babbar is the founder and director of a non-profit named Kat-Katha that works to empower and liberate sex workers in brothels of the largest red-light area known as G.B. Road of Delhi. A 27 year old girl who left her corporate job and has been quietly transforming G.B. Road brothels into classrooms, community centers, and safe spaces for the women and their children to learn & explore creative arts.
Hawaldar Vishnu Prasad: A Kargil War hero, who was part of 18 Grenadiers Param Vir Chakra/Tiger Hill Battalion in 1999 Kargil War. He lost both his legs in Kargil War but there is sense of pride for what they done for their country.
Sylvester Peter: Sylvester Peter started My Angels Academy when he was 13 years old. While studying at a government school in New Delhi, he witnessed the long-term impact of poverty and the ill effects of being an underprivileged. Sylvester Peter, more popularly known as Sylvester Bhaiya, is persistently forging the dream of rendering an all-round development environment to the slum kids near VikasPuri in New Delhi. His academy has impacted many lives. The Academy has a girl’s football team and they won a match against their American counterpart recently. Md.Tanjeer, a student at the Academy and a former drug addict got selected for the football club Liverpool and has a promising chance to go ahead.
Omkar Nath Sharma: Omkar Nath Sharma, popularly known as the Medicine Baba,is a retired blood bank technician from Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, who voluntarily collects unused medicines from people and distributes them to the poor for free of charge.Crippled at the age of 12 in a car accident, Omkar walks five or six kilometres per day. At the end of every collection, Omkar carefully catalogues everything in his binder: the name of the drug, the manufacturer, where he collected it and the expiry date only to give it back to those who need.
Mahender Singh- Patients Caretaker: A man who truly believes in the act of giving. He helps critically ill patients with fatal diseases like cancer, heart diseases by spending days and weeks with them and arranging for daily needs.Works around various hospitals like GB Pant, Guru Teg bahadur, Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty He does this only as a social service without expecting anything in return.
Amit Kumar- Manavta Foundation: Amit Kumar is founder of Manavta foundation, which works towards bringing awareness to public about proper disposal of garbage, keeping surroundings clean and not use plastic products. He organises ‘SafaiAbhiyans’ and brings awareness among public about recycle, reduce and reuse and educate people with posters on walls for hygiene awareness, plantation in public parks and free medical camps.
