Power Finance Corporation signs MoU with states for bidding 2 UMPPs

New Delhi, Sept 06 :  As part of the initiative to kick start the Odisha-Bedabahal UMPP and Tamil Nadu –Cheyyur UMPP, both of 4000 MW each,the Procurers from these UMPP(s) today signed an MoU amongst themselves and authorized the Power Finance Corporation Ltd.(PFC Ltd.) the Nodal agency for UMPP(s) to initiate the bid process with the issuance of RFQ as per the revised Standard Bidding Documents(SBD) for UMPPs approved by the EGOM last week.

The procuring States from these UMPP(s)are Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, MadhyaPradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

For Odisha UMPP, cost of land has been deposited with Govt. of Odisha and section 11 for award of land has been issued. Three coal blocks – Meenakshi, Meenakshi-B and dip side of Meenakshi have been allocated for the project and water linkage is available from Hirakud reservoir.  For Cheyyur UMPP, section 4(2) has been issued under Tamil Nadu Land Acquisition Act, environment clearance for both power station and captive port has been recommended by an Expert Committee of MoEF, forest clearance is available and permission to use sea water for the project is also available.

The project will be based on imported coal to be arranged by selected bidder. The fresh round of bidding for UMPP(s) is coming after a gap of about 5 Years, since the last UMPP in Jharkhand in the year 2007. The RFQs for the two UMPP(s) have been finalized and are likely to be issued soon. The two projects are being monitored by the PMO closely.
