Incessant rainfall has given rise to a flood-like situation in Bhilwara and Chittorgarh districts of Rajasthan where several people had to be shifted to safer places even as a 13-year-old boy drowned in a rivulet in Kota district.

Normal life was affected in parts of Bhilwara and Chittorgarh where numerous villages and towns were cut off from the district headquarters.

“Four persons were trapped in a temple on the bank of a river at Tehla village. They had to be airlifted,” Prakash Chand Chandalia, in-charge of the control room set up to monitor the situation in Bhilwara, said.

“An operation was carried out by IAF personnel and four stranded persons were rescued and dropped to safety near Ladpura in Bhilwara,” said defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha.

Nearly 40 school kids were rescued with the help of the locals of Bijolia area after their school bus fell into a river, Chandalia said.

Rains have swollen up the rivers in the region with road connectivity of several villages with the district headquarters cut off.

“The situation has become worse in the towns of these districts. Rainwater has accumulated in the low-lying areas,” said Chittorgarh Collector Inderjeet Singh.

Bhilwara Collector Tina Kumar said district administration teams have been deployed to provide relief to the affected.

Another official of the Bhilwara district administration said temporary shelters have been set up for those who had to be shifted from their homes.

Meanwhile, rains continued to lash Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar and Kota districts of Hadouti region for the third consecutive day with rivers and rivulets overflowing.

Kota Collector Ravi Kumar Surpur has directed officials to remain alert, take precautionary measures and not to leave the headquarters.
