Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur on Tuesday termed the deadly attack on Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Jalalabad as the murder of democracy and said that there is no such thing called law and order in Punjab at present.
SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal has been attacked by the Congress. When the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate went to file the nomination papers for the civic bodies’ elections today, the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked by the goons backed by the Congress leaders in Jalalabad, which is direct assassination of the democracy. This shows the picture of the situation in Punjab which proved that the law and order in the state is in the hands of the Congress people.”
The SGPC president said that by attacking the president of Shiromani Akali Dal, the Congress had tried to intimidate the opposition candidates by admitting its moral defeat in the civic bodies’ elections.
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The Congress government was not in a position to solicit votes from the people on the basis of its performance, due to which, it tried unsuccessfully to win the elections by attacking Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.”
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “It was wrong to hold civic bodies’ elections in Punjab at a time when Punjab farmers are sitting on the streets in Delhi for their rights.”
