 Record capacity of  54,964 MW added during 11th plan

 The total installed capacity of thecountry has crossed two lakh Megawatts(MW), with a record capacity addition of 54964MW in the 11th plan. This is about two and half times thecapacity added in the 10th plan. This was stated by Shri SushilkumarShinde , Union Minister of Power in Solapur during the ceremony held to flag offmain plant civil works of NTPC’s Solapur Super thermal Power project (2x660MW) last evening. Shri K. C. Venugopal, Union Minister ofState for Power and other dignitaries  of the State and the Region were  present onthis historic occasion.

In his address Shri K. C. Venugopal, UnionMinister of State for Power spoke about the commitment of the government tomeet the power demand of the country through diversified fuel mix.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Arup RoyChoudhury , CMD, NTPC said the company is committed  to generate quality power for  the nation and development of Solapur on  power map of the country

Shri Shinde also Dedicated the SolapurPower & industrial Training institute (SPITI)to the Nation . He alsoinaugurated commencement of civil works of SPITI Residential Complex inSolapur. The  SPITI shall be state of theart ITI with workshops for  welding,Electrician, Instrument Mechanic Trades, Computer lab and Drawing Hall.  The institute shall enhance the quality ofvocational education in the area and ensure better employability of localyouth.

NTPC is India’s largest power utility, playing a major role in meeting the power needs of the country andcontributing to its economic and social development.  The present installed capacity of NTPC  is 38014 MW. CSR is an article of faith forNTPC and it takes up several initiatives in community development activities inthe areas of infrastructure, health , sanitation ,and education around itspower projects.

Socio economic vitalityof the people around its business units is integral to sustainable success ofNTPC as a company.  This belief guidesNTPC into adopting a participative approach towards its R&R activities andCSR initiatives.
