VOLVO UNVEILS ITS NEW SUV VERSION THE "XC90" AND "MOMENTUM"

New Delhi: Swedish auto major Volvo unveiled the new version of its sports utility vehicle (SUV), the XC90. The vehicle will be available in two variants – the Inscription priced at Rs 77.9 lakh and Momentum priced at Rs 64.9 lakh (both ex-showroom Mumbai pre-octroi), the company said in a statement.

The company has started pre-order bookings and the vehicles will be delivered from September 2015.

“With the all-new Volvo XC90, we are not just launching a car, but re-launching our brand,’’ Tomas Ernberg, MD, Volvo Auto India, said in a statement. “The new XC90 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Volvo Cars, capturing its future design direction, incorporating its own range of new technologies and utilizing its new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA),’’ he said.

According to Mr. Ernberg, the company invested US $ 11 billion in the development of the product and engine platforms over the past three years. “The XC90 paves the way for a portfolio of exciting new cars to come in the following years,’’ he said.

The new XC90 is equipped with a 2.0 L four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain and the company claims it is one of the safest cars in the world. Volvo entered India in 2007 and sells five models including Volvo S80 sedan, Volvo S60 sporty sedan, Volvo DC60, Volvo V40 Cross Country and Volvo XC90, a luxury 7-seater SUV. These are sold through dealerships across 14 cities with West Delhi and Kolkata to be added soon.
