WORKER DIES ON DUTY AT BHEL TRICHY PLANT – UNIT EMPLOYEES CITE LACK OF SAFETY MEASURE THAT LED TO THE INCIDENT
TRICHY: A fitter working with Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL), Trichy, died while on duty on 10TH October ,Thursday night , when a steel rod hit his chest. The accident prompted rest of the employees to organize protest alleging that higher officials didn’t provide safety measures for the employees.The sit-down strike demanding compensation and suspension of some of the officials came to an end after the BHEL administration assured that their demands including a job for next of kin of the deceased will be fulfilled.
Arockiasamy (59), a fitter at BHEL, was hit by a steel rod weighing three kilogram, when he was trying to straighten a bent rod using heavy machinery at 8.30 pm on Thursday.
