GOPAL RAI DELHI TRANSPORT MINISTER LAUNCHEQS CAMPAIGN TO TRAIN MARSHALS TOWARDS GENDER SENSITIZATION

The campaign to train Marshals towards gender sensitization  launched by Shri Gopal Rai .

Security during travelling in buses or any other mode of public transport is the top most priority of this Government: Shri Gopal Rai

 Training will be imparted to Home Guards deputed by Delhi Government in DTC buses as Marshal.

The Marshals will be imparted half-day training by “Manas  Foundation.

Delhi Transport Minister Shri Gopal Rai formally launched a campaign for imparting “Gender Sensitization Training” to DTC Marshals today.  Earlier, Delhi Government had provided Home Guards to DTC for the safety of commuters, especially women commuter in Delhi and it was announced that these Marshals would be given a proper training.

On this occasion Shri Gopal Rai emphasized the need of overall security of women in Delhi is very essential at all public places but security during travelling in buses or any other mode of public transport is the top most priority of this Government.  The Government has taken initial steps towards a bigger goal.

Shri Rai said the key role of these Home Guards as marshals is to take appropriate action in case of any incident of sexual harassment or untoward incident in the bus.  The responsibility to train these Marshals has been given to Manas Foundation. United Nations Women (UN Women) is also associated with the training / programme. The training programme is aimed towards creating safe public transportation for all.

The marshals will be trained to develop their understanding on the issue of Gender and sexual harassment and to bring a change in the mindsets of travelers and attitude towards the issue.  This would be a half day training that will not only impart knowledge about gender sensitization but will also behaviourally equip the home guards to address the gender related issues commonly faced by women commuters.  In this training each marshal will sign a pledge indicating his commitment towards women safety and will be given a badge to be worn as a social display of his responsibility to the good cause.

A module to impart the training has been developed.  A set of standard operating procedures would also be developed during the course of training which the home guards would follow for a coordinated response to an incident of sexual harassment.  Stickers with slogans that depict the spirit of equality and safety in urban spaces will be put up in the buses to bring in the partnership with the public at large, as well as Delhi Transport Corporation, Manas Foundation and UN Women.
